WHAT ARE SOME CORE CONCEPTS OF ENGLISH LITERATURE?
English literature includes not just books but oral stories, films, digital media, graphic novels and visual texts. Understanding how family,culture,history,gender,place and colonial policies shape text and worldviews. Exploring how text build personal and cultural identity and respecting diverse perspectives and First peoples' worldviews. As you develop in the study your analysis moves from summarizing to definig, explaining and critiquing for deep meaning. You will be building a strong literacy, communication, and academic writing skills for post-secondary readiness.
The BC English Literature curriculum, especially at the Grade 10 level (English Literary Studies 10), focuses on deep analysis of diverse texts (stories, poetry, film, digital) to build critical thinking, communication, and identity, emphasizing personal connection, diverse perspectives (including First Peoples' worldviews), context (social, cultural, historical), and developing academic writing skills for future success. Students learn to analyze form, function, authorial context, and various text types, moving beyond simple comprehension to critique, interpret, and create meaning from complex literature.

WHAT ARE SOME DEVELOPED SKILLS ACQUIRED AFTER LEARNING ENGLISH LITERATURE?
English literature is more than just a subject, It gives and nurtures the ability to deconstruct complex texts, identifying themes, arguments, and biases. Through extensive essay writing, presentations and seminar discussions, Students refine their ability express ideas clearly , persuasively and concisely . Literature students conduct in-depth research to support their interpretations, learning to debate, locate, evaluate information from various sources. These skills could be used in Publishing, Journalism, Marketing, Public relations and education as jobs.
