Grade 8 Social studies at palmer is covered in a course called Humanities 8 which is a fusion of English and Socials. This course covers world history from 7th to 1750, focusing on diverse civilizations (Europe, Middle east, Asia, America), It undergoes Key concepts like exploration, colonization, contrast and conflict, and Grand ideas like technology's impact( Printing press, navigation), cultural shifts( Renaissance, Reformation) and the development of political and economic systems, Building skills for critical thinking and understanding diverse perspectives.

Grade 9 Social studies at Palmer explores Age of Revolutions ( American, French, Industrial), early European Exploration & Colonization of North America, and the development of Canadian Identity. They study themes like changing power dynamics, cultural interactions (especially with Indigenous first peoples), governance and geography to build critical thing and active citizenship .

1. HISTORICAL PERIODS: In this theme there is a major focus on the era of 1750-1919 including the Enlightenment, revolutions ( English, American, French), Indigenous perspectives, European arrival, cultural clashes and early settlement in North America. Some topics under this theme include:-

Imperialism and Colonialism(19th-Early 20th) : European colonization and its motivations with how it created devastating effects in places like Africa. The Indiana act treaty on Indigenous peoples in Canada

Age of Revolution (1750s-1800s): This topic covers revolutions , A revolution is a situation where the people of a country overthrow a government or change how a country is run like for example the French revolution including the overthrowing of monarchy, Rise of Napoleon, concepts of rights and citizenship as well as Industrial revolution
2. THE ENLIGHTENMENT: In this theme the concept of the French Revolution was created and enhanced. In studying this students learn how these ideas influenced revolutions and modern government. Topics in this theme include:-
